After long since completing a song I composed in Garageband that I imported into Pro Tools 12, I realized I wanted to add an additional track to the version that was once on my iPad. The problem... it was on an iPad I now had since restored from its former jailbroken state. After 'un - jailbreaking' the iPad, I restored it from a backup that was created before I created the song in Garageband.
Fortunately, I previously had backed up the song via the 'old' Garageband to my iCloud account. The bad news... it was not initially apparent how to download/import it back into my newly restored iPad.
If you too find yourself in this situation, the following should help...
1). Make sure you have your iCloud Drive enabled. You would think that's been the case since all this time you had been saving it to iCloud (well... yes and no). Check by going to...
Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive > [ON].
2). Now go into Garageband and on the window where there is a screenshot of each of your songs (or blank if you don't have any) Click the '+' in the top left hand corner.
3). There should now be an option to 'Import from iCloud'.
NOTE: if you click the 'Import from iCloud' options and still don't see the backup of your song (or even the option to Import from iCloud is not there), proceed to the following steps...
i. You may first (as was the case for me) have to delete Garageband on your device and reinstall it from the App store, then perform the following steps after the re-installation ...
ii.) Go into Garageband and make sure you can back up to your iCloud from it. Even if you know where the setting is, you might want to copy a test song to your iCloud... just to be sure.
iii). Use a web browser to log into your iCloud account.
iv). Click on the 'iCloud Drive' icon.
v). You should see a folder called 'iCloud for iOS', double click to access the folder.
vi). Click and drag any files that have the filename of your song in this folder (there are probably two - the actual song and an image file of the song) into the lower left hand corner of the browser where it says [iCloud Drive]...
Go back into your Garageband and once again in the window where there is a screenshot of each of your songs (or blank if you don't have any) Click the '+', then 'Import from iCloud'. You should now see you song(s) as an option for importation into Garageband.
