How to Use Your PC to Move Audio Files Into iPhone / iPad

If you are a jogger/runner who needs to take their music on the go, or perhaps a musician or singer who needs to practice or learn their material by using their iPhone or iPad as a tool for playback. This article is for you.

or...

Maybe you're just someone who has a need to download music to their PC, but has no clue on where to start, you too have come to the right place.

What you will need...

1). A PC running Windows... (though the process is very similar on a MAC)
2). An installed verion of iTunes running on your PC.
3). An IOS device, such as an iPhone or iPad.
4). The sync cable that came with your IOS device. It is the same cable you use to power it.
One end will be connected to your device and the other end into the USB port of your PC).

Three are only three steps you will need to accomplish your goal.

One: Download the music to your PC
Two: Import the music into iTunes
Three: Use iTunes to sync the music into your iPhone or iPad.

Now for the details...

Step One:
Download the music to your PC.

I find there are far too many people who download content to their computer; yet when done, they have no idea where on the PC it is located. With that said, before attempting to download anything... know the location where you are going to download. If you are new to downloading, for now I would suggest your desktop. This will make it easier for you to find your file(s) it later.
If you are a bit more experienced at downloading, you can create or use a pre-existing folder that you'll know how to navigate to after the download.

Initiate your download.

Audio files come in different formats, and iTunes can use several of them (be sure though not to attempt to use .wmv Windows Media Files though... they won't work).

Save to a known location.

Step Two:

Open iTunes

For the first time click
Edit > Preferences > Advanced
Make sure "Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder" is checked.
Once you have completed all of these steps, you will be able to go to your download location and delete the original copy of the

a). While still in iTunes click...

File > New Playlist and give your new playlist a name such as "Jogging", "Workout" etc.
Playlists are ways to groups song by catagory (ex: All my running songs in one playlist folder, or songs I have to learn into another).

b). Click File > Add File to Library

c). Find the file in your iTunnes Music Library (via sorting or search)

d). Drag the file into your new Playlist (Note: this will not create a another copy of the song in iTunes).

Final Step
: Use iTunes to copy the music from your iTunes playlist into your iPad / iPhone.
Connect your device with the sync cable and find it within iTunes on the left in the list.
Click it once to select the device.

In the right pane click "Music", then Playlist.
It is here that you can select which playlists (and other songs) that will snyc to your iPhone / iPad.

Click the SYNC button in the bottom right hand corner.

Once done, the song will be available on your iPhone / iPad.

"This content requires HDCP for playback" Apple TV fix

Perhaps you are having issues viewing Netflix, iTunes or any other streaming content via your Apple TV device? First, the short answer regarding the fix (in most cases)... 1). Leave your Apple TV device ON. 2). Turn OFF your TV for 10 seconds. 3). Turn ON your TV. 4). Now attempt to view the content on your Apple TV (hopefully without error). Behind the answer... Depending on the content being streamed, there is an authentication process that takes place when you request content. The user is usually oblivious of the this, that is until something goes wrong. HDCP stands for (H)igh bandwidth (D)igital (C)ontent (P)rotection. Even if you are only mildly interested in the 'what' of HDCP, I highly recommend checking out this simple yet concise and exhaustive explanation on Wikipedia, which can be found here... Can't (or no longer can) Connect via VPN to Work, School or whatever

If you find you no longer can connect to your work, school or from a particular Hotspot it could be due to them (the network) no longer has the port (door) opened that allows the type of vpn traffic your device is using in its attempt to connect. As it relates to this post, I'm more specifically referring to connections that use the PPTP vpn protocol (Windows, Mac... etc). The PPTP protocol is now considered more vulnerable from a network security perspective than several other current VPN alternatives.  In many cases, it's been causing headaches for Network Administrators who should have migrated from its use by now. Perhaps it's due to the particular bubble I leave in, but it sure seems like there was not much lead time (notice) regarding the impending switch... weeks maybe? Apple users need to take particular note ... As of iOS 10, PPTP vpn connects are no longer supported from any of their devices.  I speak a bit more on this here .

How to Restore / Import a Garageband file from iCloud

After long since completing a song I composed in Garageband that I imported into Pro Tools 12, I realized I wanted to add an additional track to the version that was once on my iPad.  The problem... it was on an iPad I now had since restored from its former jailbroken state.  After 'un - jailbreaking' the iPad, I restored it from a backup that was created before I created the song in Garageband. Fortunately, I previously had backed up the song via the 'old' Garageband to my iCloud account. The bad news... it was not initially apparent how to download/import it back into my newly restored iPad.  If you too find yourself in this situation, the following should help ...  1). Make sure you have your iCloud Drive enabled .  You would think that's been the case since all this time you had been saving it to iCloud ( well... yes and no ). Check by going to ... Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive > [ON] . 2). Now go into Garageband and on the ...
