Monitor / Display Issues After Windows 10 Upgrade

Before proceeding... it goes without saying to make sure you have visited the website of the manufacture of the monitor(s) in question and be sure you are using the most update to date Windows driver for your monitors. If not, download and install.
--------------------------
Really digging the new Windows 10 upgrade, which I have performed on several devices thus far... laptops, tablets (even the $99.00 Winbooks) and domain attached computers (non-enterprise licensed machines).

But...

With just a few of the upgrades, I ran into a couple of the following issues relating to Display...

- External monitors no longer worked.
- Two external monitors presented the same display (mirrored), when I wanted to actually extend the display across both of them.  There were no options to make the changes I needed.

Right clicking on the desktop and going to Display Settings or Personalize did not help. Nor did Windows see the extra monitor(s).

While right clicking on the desktop to get to the display properties, I noticed a couple of things missing which might also be a problem for you...  The "Graphics Properties..." and "Graphic Options" you see below were missing.

usually, when the display settings for Windows can't help you, you can count on these two options to assist. But mine were gone. If your's are missing, you will need to re-install igfxcpl.cpl and update your Intel display drivers.

This can be done by going to the Intel Download Center
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ and obtaining the Windows 10 drivers (which will do all the above including putting back the Graphics options on your desktop).

When you get there, select "Graphic Drivers" under the first option and "Laptop" or "Desktop" depending type of device for the second.

The 3rd option depends on your graphics card. If you don't readily know the answer for this choice, you can either "Google" the specs for the computer you are working on and look for any description pertaining to graphics or display, or you may have a sticker on your computer which tells you the type of graphics card you have installed.

Only thing left is to download, unzip... and run the setup.exe program.   Even though running it may immediately fix your issue, go ahead and perform the suggested reboot.

"This content requires HDCP for playback" Apple TV fix

Perhaps you are having issues viewing Netflix, iTunes or any other streaming content via your Apple TV device? First, the short answer regarding the fix (in most cases)... 1). Leave your Apple TV device ON. 2). Turn OFF your TV for 10 seconds. 3). Turn ON your TV. 4). Now attempt to view the content on your Apple TV (hopefully without error). Behind the answer... Depending on the content being streamed, there is an authentication process that takes place when you request content. The user is usually oblivious of the this, that is until something goes wrong. HDCP stands for (H)igh bandwidth (D)igital (C)ontent (P)rotection. Even if you are only mildly interested in the 'what' of HDCP, I highly recommend checking out this simple yet concise and exhaustive explanation on Wikipedia, which can be found here... Can't (or no longer can) Connect via VPN to Work, School or whatever

If you find you no longer can connect to your work, school or from a particular Hotspot it could be due to them (the network) no longer has the port (door) opened that allows the type of vpn traffic your device is using in its attempt to connect. As it relates to this post, I'm more specifically referring to connections that use the PPTP vpn protocol (Windows, Mac... etc). The PPTP protocol is now considered more vulnerable from a network security perspective than several other current VPN alternatives.  In many cases, it's been causing headaches for Network Administrators who should have migrated from its use by now. Perhaps it's due to the particular bubble I leave in, but it sure seems like there was not much lead time (notice) regarding the impending switch... weeks maybe? Apple users need to take particular note ... As of iOS 10, PPTP vpn connects are no longer supported from any of their devices.  I speak a bit more on this here .

How to Restore / Import a Garageband file from iCloud

After long since completing a song I composed in Garageband that I imported into Pro Tools 12, I realized I wanted to add an additional track to the version that was once on my iPad.  The problem... it was on an iPad I now had since restored from its former jailbroken state.  After 'un - jailbreaking' the iPad, I restored it from a backup that was created before I created the song in Garageband. Fortunately, I previously had backed up the song via the 'old' Garageband to my iCloud account. The bad news... it was not initially apparent how to download/import it back into my newly restored iPad.  If you too find yourself in this situation, the following should help ...  1). Make sure you have your iCloud Drive enabled .  You would think that's been the case since all this time you had been saving it to iCloud ( well... yes and no ). Check by going to ... Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive > [ON] . 2). Now go into Garageband and on the ...
